Breakform Design was commissioned by an owner/builder to design a 3,144-square-foot, 4-bedroom, 5-bathroom house on a thin infill lot facing a bustling side street Venice. The solution turns spatial constraints into a living environment centered around seclusion, light, and fluidity, all focused around a tranquil outdoor pool. Expansive corner sliding glass doors open to create a column-free indoor-outdoor living environment. From the street, the house's silhouette emerges gracefully marked by a mixed-finish red cedar entrance setback from the facade that molds with the overall form and materials. Amplifying the architecture are a light-filled, inward-looking, and spacious interior with a mix of spaces, features, and finishes. To keep the landscape healthy year-round and reduce waste, Breakform Design's progressive technical agenda included integrated irrigation that reuses rainwater from on-site barrels to maintain native and drought-tolerant plants.
